About

In 2003, Deadly Underground Studios was born. Founded by Gwendolyn Kiste (that's me, the web mistress), the production company first began to take form in northeastern Ohio in 2003. The following year, we (as in me, but it sounds better to pretend we are this impressive group of people) released our very first film Outside of Nowhere, which was shot primarily in the Akron area. The story followed ten characters in a supernatural town during one rather strange 24-hour period, and the feature-length film was shot on a budget of approximately $2,500.

In 2005, production began on Edge of Midnight. Although the film took three years to complete, the finished film blended elements of fantasy, horror, and comedy to create a unique project that is over-the-top, absurdist fun that never takes itself too seriously.

Since the release of our last feature film, Deadly Underground has been somewhat dormant. We did release In a Zombie's House, a fifteen minute short which lovingly pays tribute to Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon. We also shot the noir short The Vamp Wore White, but I have thus far been rather lame and have not completed editing it (EPIC. FAIL.)

Nevertheless, in August 2011, we were thrilled to begin production on our third feature film The Unusual Story of. Once again careening into absurdist territory, the story follows the exploits of a fashion journalist as she tries to prove her worth by interviewing a series of unusual and sometimes even dangerous interviewees, including Dracula's brides, zombie brothers, an ancient mummy, and Frankenstein's Monster and his Bride. Look for the film's release in early 2012.
